Hermit Park State School (OSHC) provides before and after school care and vacation care for up to 120 students. The OSHC provides an excellent service that is exceeding in all seven quality areas of the National Quality Standards and offers a program that follows the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality framework “My Time Our Place". This program guides staff to develop opportunities for school-aged children to participate in leisure and play-based activities that respond to their needs, interests and choices.
Vacation care offers various activities where the children participate in excursions to parks around Townsville, movies, bowling and much more, and incursions such as Rides and Slides visiting the service. OSHC runs wheels day, wet play, spa days and Santa might even pop in for a visit during Christmas vacation care.
OSHC employs a number of full-time staff, including Jade Lucas (Coordinator), Paul Casali (Assistant Coordinator), Megan Preston (Educational Leader) and Kellie Beck (Administrator). A large number of casual staff also makes up the wonderful and caring OSHC team.
OSHC is operated on school grounds in a new purpose-built facility and is run by the Hermit Park State School P&C Association, with its own sub-committee that is composed of a Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. This sub-committee is voted in each year at the P&C AGM, which is usually held in March. Without the P&C committee, the OSHC cannot operate. Sub-committee meetings are held on the third Monday of the month at 5.30pm at the OSHC building. New members are always welcome.
