The priority at Hermit Park State School is high-quality teaching and student engagement in all aspects of learning.
  

Core learning priorities

We are committed to the core learning priorities of:
  • reading
  • writing, including spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • numeracy
  • science
  • retention, attainment and transition of students at key junctures of schooling
  • closing the gap between attendance and outcomes for indigenous and non-indigenous students

Curriculum framework

Hermit Park implements the National Curriculum for English, Maths, Science and HASS, HPE, LOTE, The Arts, and Health and Physical Education. We have developed a range of resources to assist teachers with implementing a coherent, developmental and united approach for curriculum delivery from Prep to Year 6 including:
  • whole-school curriculum plan
  • whole-school subject plans
  • assessment and monitoring plan
  • ongoing moderation with other schools to ensure consistency in allocation of school grades to students across the region

High quality teaching practices

Our teachers demonstrate high quality teaching characterised by:
  • high expectations of all students
  • deep knowledge of learning areas and pedagogical practices
  • continuous monitoring of student achievement
  • offering a safe, supportive, inclusive and disciplined learning environment.
Our wonderful staff are supported on an ongoing basis with regular staff training, collegial coaching and opportunities for personal and professional development.

Collaborative curriculum

Hermit Park State School works with other schools in our local community and across the state to develop highly effective instructional practices. 
Evidence based decision-making
Hermit Park utilises school performance data to track student learning. Our improvement strategies and targets enable us to monitor students and the school's performance overall as outlined n our Annual Implementation Plan.
