Excursions and camps provide students with new and different experiences and the opportunity to hone their social and behavioural skills in the wider community.

Throughout the year all students are given the opportunity to participate in excursions. In the early years these may include:

  • Trips to the local state libraries.
  • Plays and other productions at the Civic theatre.
  • Day trips to the Reef HQ aquarium or the Museum of Tropical Queensland.
  • An afternoon at a professional sports game.

In later years excursions are linked closely to curriculum requirements.

Year 5 excursion to Charters Towers and camp at Paluma

The culmination of the Year 5 unit on Australia's gold mining history is day-long excursion to the Historical Gold Town of Charters Towers. Here students have a chance to learn about local history and gold mining in the area, witness gold mining techniques first-hand at the Venus Battery, and even pan for gold.

Every year, Year 5 students participate in a 3-day excursion to the Paluma Environmental Education Centre. Located in the rainforest 80 kilometres north of Townsville, the camp gives students the opportunity to participate in many activities including bird watching, bush walking, historical walks, astronomy and rainforest studies. This camp is a culminating activity of our Science and Technology curriculum.

Year 6 camp at Kinchant Dam

Every year, Year 6 students participate in a 4-day excursion to the Kinchant Outdoor Education Centre, located about 25 kilometres west of Mackay

Kinchant Outdoor Education Centre is an Education Queensland-funded facility that is dedicated to providing a safe, educationally enriched environment for schools to utilize either on day visits or residential camps.

The Centre's key curriculum focus ties in with the General Capabilities of the Australian Curriculum with many of their programs looking at Critical and Creative Thinking and Personal and Social Capability by promoting teamwork, leadership and resilience.
