Being proactive, taking pride in your surroundings and being responsible for your own actions are traits we nurture in all students.
Senior students are encouraged to develop leadership qualities and lead by example at all times. Student leaders are elected in the following areas:
- Sports House captains
- Arts
- Environmental
- Cultural
- Community
Student council
Rather then employ the traditional leadership structure of School Captains and an elected Student Council, at Hermit Park participation in Student Council is available to any interested student in Year 5 or Year 6. The Council meets fortnightly to discuss a range of issues including:
Members of the Student Council, supported by staff, then form sub-committees to develop and implement projects or activities arising from the group discussion.
House captains
Captains are elected by the student body for each of our sporting houses. Their role is to assist with the organisation of training and sports days, providing students with a role model and boosting team spirits by leading the war cries.
Ecological sustainability projects
Our sustainability projects provide senior students with many opportunities to demonstrate leadership. This may include researching new projects, seeking sponsorship, lobbying council or industry groups, coordinating daily maintenance of an existing project, organising an event or public speaking.
Fundraising
Arising from Student Council discussions, each year students plan and implement a number of fundraising events. Students are encouraged to pick a charity to support for the year, but spontaneously implement extra fundraising activities in times of natural disaster. In recent years fundraising events coordinated by students have included:
free dress days
bandanna day
shave for a cure
crazy hair day
loose change challenge
Yr 6 Market Day
